The time had come to say goodbye to Pegli and continue the journey. Packed with homemade lunches and pasta we squirmed back into local traffic with the van. Heading: Modena. But we didn't need to arrive there yet, our garage appointment is not until Monday. So we'll spend some time on the way.
We headed into the Appeninno mountains, towards a specific trail that was recommended to us by an old friend of Federica. However, we didn't actually make it all the way, as we got tired of forcing Vespa up the winding mountain road, with a roaring engine in the second gear. We found another trail from a tiny town we passed, which turned out surprisingly nice. The little refugio we passed was even open and served us some cold drinks. The night we spent just in the parking lot where we departed, as it was quiet and remote enough.
The next day we made it into the Tosco-Emiliano nature park. As seems to happen every time, the drive took a lot longer than expected. We got to a decent campsite, where we just hung out for a bit and took a little walk around. Then we wanted to see Terre di Matilda, this time by bike. That was not successful however, as the biking trail was too steep for the two of us to get through. On a descent I was sent flying over my bike, straight into the mud. Hurting nothing but my pride fortunately. After washing off the mud at a roadside water tap we drove to our farmstay campsite for that night. The place was high up and a little hard to get to, but very nice. The farm was pretty and peaceful, although the local peacock was a bit too vocal and didn't seem to need sleep himself.
