We took some cappuccino in the farm's restaurant, served by the nonna who was already making the tortellini for the day. And we drove on the Croatia, past the city of Trieste and through about 10 minutes of Slovenia. We stayed the night on a well equipped campsite, in the town of Buzet. On the hosts recommendation we visited the local distillery before making dinner, where the staff was very eager for us to try pretty much everything. We ended up taking a bottle of wonderful spiced wine with us. The next morning we did a walking tour close by, known for passing seven cascades. This turned out a bit more challenging than expected, but the scenery was very nice. After lunch we drove on, crossing the rest of the Istrian peninsula. We passed straight through the Učka nature park, where the scenic route took its toll on Vespa with very steep climbs and descents. We spent the night on a large but empty campsite right by the sea. We spent most of the next day driving to the town of Troglir. The drive is gorgeous, more inland we see endless hills covered with only waste high shrubbery and down by the coast we snake left and right between steep mountains on the left and the bright blue sea on the right. Troglir turns out to be dreamy old coastal town, but also completely packed with tourists already. We continue on to a campsite in Makarska.

Federica has been filling quite ill, so we decide to visit the hospital in town. With astonishing efficiency she is back outside with a prescription for antibiotics, giving by a friendly English-speaking doctor. We decide to stay another night in the same place, so she can recover. I take my mountainbike over an abandoned beach promenade and later we stroll along the beach together. It's warm and sunny, though the temperature of the water makes swimming still impossible. After dinner we walk into the town to witness a concert on the square, where a band with four guys dressed in suits sing folky songs. The crowd even sings along, they appreciate it more than we seem to do.

Makarska is a pretty city, squashed between the mountains and the sea

Along the coast we find an odd combination of long abandoned structures right next to new resorts being built
