We take it easy in the days in Pegli. Not in small part because of the heat: the temperature is well into the 30s with high humidity and even in the mornings and evenings it's barely cooler. A lot of time is spent hanging around the kitchen table, where Federica's mom often suggests there is something more to eat or drinkL "La casa offre..." ("the house offers..."). We do spend a morning and the one cloudy day on the beach, the sea is just perfect now. But during the middle of the day it's normally too hot to even stay out on the beach.
We run errands and do appointments and I go for some very sweaty bike rides. Like every Italian we have pizza out on Saturday night, when we invade a restaurant together with more family friends of Federica. We come to realize that, without trying, we have some gelato every single day. On one evening we go to a local festival-like event (a "sagra") where we meet some more friends of Federica and listen to the very local rockstars: Scolvoltri. Here's a banger:
Tuesday morning it's time to head out again. We pack up the van (including a packed lunch fit for an entire squadron) and head to Switzerland. Here we have dinner with friends of mine that moved from the Netherlands last year. We drive some more into the night and sleep on a rest stop in Germany. The next day is a grueling day of driving through German traffic, back to my parents.
